Technical review of polyester yarns |
||||||||||||||
Polyester yarn is one ofthe most important yarns in variousindustries, including the
textile industry.
This yarn can be made of both natural and synthetic fibers; the importance of this type
of yarn has made it one of the most widely used fibers, and we must say that this type
of yarn is most widely used and applied in the production of various fabrics and textiles.
How to produce polyester yarn
Since polyester is a type of thermoplastic polymer, it can be produced using various
methods: melt spinning, wet spinning, and dry spinning. In the wet spinning and dry
spinning processes, the polymer is dissolved in the solvent and after the solvent is
removed, the spun fibers are collected, while in the melt spinning process, the polyester
granules or chips are initially crystallized at a temperature above the Tg of the polymer
during a certain residence time, losing most of their moisture and a large part of the
amorphous regions becoming crystalline. After this stage, the granules are introduced
into the dryer, dehumidified and prepared for the melt spinning process.
The prepared chips are melted by entering the extruder and then produced by the fiber
spinner and solidified by the quenching process, and stretching and thermal processes
are applied to the produced yarn for a better arrangement of polymers.
Types of Polyester Yarn
Polyester yarns come in many varieties, each with different production methods, uses, properties and characteristics, and are used in a wide
range of applications in the textile industry. Generally, polyester yarn is classified into three main types, as listed below:
1-Filament Filament yarn is a combination of layers of fibers produced by a spinning machine. This yarn can be twisted or untwisted, in which the fibers are placed parallel to each other so that they do not separate. This type of yarn is divided into two categories: monofilament and multifilament, which are produced in high strength for industrial use and normal strength for knitting use.
> Types of Filament Yarn (POY _ FDY _ ITY) The yarns used in the production of coated industrial gloves are this type of yarn (POY). Therefore, we will examine POY yarns further.
POY: A yarn that is used as a raw material in the texturizing process in the production of DTY, ATY yarns, as well as in the production of ITY yarn. After the polyester chips are passed through the extruder and continuous filaments are produced, in the next process of this type of yarn, after solidification and transformation of the melt into a solid state in a stretching process, the polymers are relatively arranged and produce the so-called semi-arranged. Important features of this yarn include its remarkable thermal properties, high flexibility, and also its suitable hanging properties.
2-Spun yarn
3-Texture (ATY _ DTY)
Features of Polyester Yarn
This yarn has many and varied features, and therefore it can be used instead of cotton to produce various textiles.
Being hypoallergenic and suitable for any skin type, high strength, resistance and durability, remarkable softness and tenderness, no odor,
no moisture absorption, etc. are among the features that are very important and help a lot in producing high-quality fabrics and textiles.
Also, important physical properties of polyester yarn include resistance to wrinkling, proper elasticity of polyester yarn and fibers,
proper shape of microscopic fibers, etc. This fabric exhibits high and appropriate resistance to various chemical properties such
as the effects of acidic substances, dilute alkalis, various biological agents, and oxidizing substances such as soaps and consumables.
Advantages of polyester yarn Strength and resistance Affordable and inexpensive Adaptability (ability to combine with other fibers) Recyclability Disadvantages of polyester yarn High static electricity and possibility of pilling Not maintaining temperature Low water absorption
In general, it can be said that polyester yarn has a cheap and reasonable price and, considering the price and features mentioned, it is very
suitable for producing various fabrics and textiles.
